In 1998, the clergy & congregations of the four churches listed above signed a Covenant. This is some of what the Covenant says:

"We the clergy and congregation of these four churches:

acknowledge our common faith in one God, father, Son and Holy Spirit; Creator, Saviour, Life-giver

accept that this common faith places on us the responsibility of working together to spread the Gospel

respect and welcome one another's traditions and practices

believe that there is in God's purpose one church, and a common faith, but also a need to overcome existing divisions

and therefore we covenant to do together all that we can and not to do apart what we can do together."

"As Christians, we are called by the Gospel to be peacemakers who proclaim the reconciliation Christ has brought to every man and to all men (cf. 2 Cor 5:14 18)... If we wish to be faithful to Jesus Christ, we must be thoroughly committed so that, at the dawn of the third millennium, we may find ourselves closer to one another, and everyone, together, closer to God".

Pope John Paul II
